Karla's update. She went to Galena, and Elizabeth Illinois to look at antiques. Sunday she spoke at 4-H club. She went to doctor to find out she had walking pneumonia, so she laid low to recover for a bit. Last weekend she went to the Rotary Youth Ethics Symposium, the Garden Expo where Jada had an exhibitor’s booth, Super Brunch with her exchange friends, and is going to Milwaukee this weekend.

Updates: Our president-elect nominee is Brent Yauchler, who has been our president 3 times in the past. He will be serving as president after President-elect Steve Salerno’s term.

Paul: thanks us for the fantastic Super Brunch which is a community event along with the Optimist’s silent auction. Peggy thanked Paul for the excellent new griddles.

Happy Bucks: Peggy is happy for new griddles. Mark has 2 happy bucks, one for the smooth operation at the pancake brunch, and for Dave Reed’s history with Mark’s kids as automotive students.

Brent: thankful for participation Sunday, and for those who attended our fireside chat.

Svetlana: she served 400 people at the pancake brunch, and she heard 400 thank-you’s. Afterwards a couple came up to her to thank her and she is grateful for how much respect people have for Rotary.

Guest speakers presentation

Margaret Ross, Dua Ci Khang and Molly Reinhard of UW -Madison, Julio Diaz, neuroscientist / EMT.

The Mount Horeb FD gives scholarships to UW students interested in health careers that allow them to take EMT training at MATC. When they graduate they volunteer here on the weekends, allowing us to staff ambulances and giving them experience that will help them get into med school, etc. They also get extra training in emergency medicine and job shadowing opportunities. They could expand the program with more money for transportation for students from campus to Mount Horeb and more scholarships. The goal is to fully staff weekends with students.

Julio Diaz explains EMT challenges in rural areas.
