Guest Cayden Lee is a MHHS 2019 graduate. He works at West Point Financial at the west side of Madison.
 
Karla's Update. It's her birthday week and the celebrating continues. Friday she had a big birthday gathering with her host families along with Judy and Irv.  Saturday she made an appearance on the jumbo screen at the UW hockey game. Sunday went to Viroqua and sampled lots of ice cream. Her host sister made her friends themed birthday brownies. Another birthday gathering with her friends Wednesday night.
 
Happy Bucks:
Liz is happy that Susan Smith’s husband Matt is out of the ICU.
Steve is thankful for attending midwest PETS and the opportunity for leadership. Secondly Friday night meal packing event. Feeding my starving children at 7 pm at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church - Verona Campus 7291 County Rd PD, Verona. Participants are reminded to wear closed-toe shoes, and not wear jewelry. Anyone interested contact Steve.
Judy is happy to be going to Nashville to be a Grandma.
Bob: happy to be back, 3 weeks early from Key West, and for Steve Helwig’s fast response when he needed help with car issues. While in Key West Bob and Faye experienced different rotary clubs from the oldest club meeting at the Marriott where the members were hit up to kick in and make contributions during their meeting.
Faye: happy for Faith’s Furry Friends as our student rotarian Faith Droessler made a couple crocheted animals complete with packaging with her Etsy store brand.

Budget meeting next week Tuesday 9030 W Mineral Point road. Members are invited to attend. Today’s meeting agenda features budget report with account balances

Scholarship packets are here for committee members which are due by the end of the month.
RYLA applications are coming in. World affairs payment has been sent for 2 students.
 
Membership: Brent is interested in on-boarding new members. Bob is back recruiting. If you spot people that would enhance our organization please invite them to the club. Bob will approach them if you need.
 
Grants and giving: deadline for community grant applications is 3/31.
Dana raised question regarding Dane County Young Life. One of the board members volunteered to speak to the club.
Grant committee procedures explained by club members, that Rotary in non-religious, non governmental. Guidelines are further explained on the grant application as the first step, and the committee will sift through the information and then make a decision.
 
Peggy brought up a rotary project for a school in Hungary teaching Ukrainian refugees. Grant is in the process of assessing the amount needed which is about $30,000. A couple clubs in Madison have pledged support. Our club is being asked if there is any interest in helping.
The club can set up an account in the foundation for our personal contributions, or the club can collect the funds for a global grant.
20% of grants funds is earmarked for international grants. Heidi suggested a grant committee meeting in the next couple weeks to do research and come up with a proposal of club participation and then presenting it to our club members. Paul suggested we set aside time on our lunch meeting 3/20 when we will have time to meet as committees, with additional time after the meeting. Discussion followed about having a fundraising event to bring in additional funds for this, and possibly having the club matching grants from member’s contributions.
 
Our Club’s Foundation, a separate 501(c)(3) entity, needs to be updated with new board members, etc. and identify where funding is coming from and where it is going. The Foundation’s bylaws are on our ClubRunner home page. The Foundation, founded in 2004, allows donations to be a tax deduction for contributors, and is a mechanism to park funds.
 
If interested in the foundation, read the bylaws first. Meeting date tbd before or after one of our noon meetings.
