Dear friends,

What can you do with a paper placemat? You could make a paper hat or an origami crane. But in the case of Mount Horeb Rotary, we turn placemats (and their ad dollars) into grant money that helps our community.

Mount Horeb Rotary’s SuperBrunch breakfast is quickly approaching on the second Sunday in February, in conjunction with Scandihoovian Fest. It’s one of our biggest fundraisers, but this year our placemat ad sales are lagging. It could be post-Packer depression, the economy or pandemic exhaustion, but those ad sales fund our year’s worth of community grant projects. If you can help us by buying an ad, email President Susan Wallitsch  or brunch chairman Paul Christiansen today. Ads cost $60/single, $100/double or $200 double/double.

And if you have a great cause that improves life in our community, you can find the community grant application on our website. To receive money this spring for your worthy project, apply by March 1. You don’t have to be a non-profit, just have a great idea.

With our placemat money, we support programs for high school students. It’s been an exciting year for our youth exchange as we follow the adventures of Mount Horeb High School student Soren Espe during his Rotary exchange year in Italy.

Closer to home, we continue to support Neighbors Helping Neighbors,  A Home of Our Own (HOO) and many other needs in the community. The breakfast will help us support these and other worthy causes around the world in 2023. In recent years, Mount Horeb Rotary:

– Organized efforts to help people of Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees

– Led the team to build wheelchair accessible ramp at Stewart Lake

– Supported local students who attend Badger Boys and Badger Girls State

– Bought a new walk-in cooler for Neighbors Helping Neighbors

– Sponsored senior scholarships and sent students to leadership conferences

– Hosted student exchanges, including sending Mount Horeb students abroad

– Helped Puerto Rico rebuild community assets after the 2017 hurricanes

– Equipped a community kitchen and social area for disabled adults at HOOO

– Funded cataract surgeries in India

– Built water filtration plants and sent hurricane assistance to Ecuador.

– and so much more!

Please join the Mount Horeb Community for a full service breakfast, music from our talented middle school students and a silent auction organized by the Optimists. Tickets are $10 and available at the door. We’ll also have takeout containers available for people who feel more comfortable dining at home.

Thanks so much to everyone who has already supported us by buying placemat ads. Here’s to the best SuperBrunch ever!
