Meet our October Student Rotarians Sydney Almquist and Stella Jungels.
October 2024 Rotary Students of the Month
The October Student Rotarians were Sydney Almquist and Stella Jungels. Both are seniors at Mount Horeb Area High School and active in a dizzying array of activities.
Sydney Almquist played volleyball and soccer for all four years of high school. She is active in Club Interact and National Honor Society and is an officer for both clubs.. In DECA, she is an officer and director of fundraising. In the DECA competition, she placed first at district, fifth at state and competed in the international competition. She’s been on Link Crew, Book Club, and Spanish Club, as well.
On the music side, Almquist was in the musical all four years, including three years in the tech crew and one year on stage. She is percussion captain in the varsity band, and also plays in the Mount Horeb and Barneveld Community Bands. She is a regular volunteer at the Summer Frolic, as well.
Sydney is undecided about her plans after high school. She is the daughter of Jim and Sheri Almquist and the sister of Payton Almquist, a college student who was a Rotary student in 2023.
Stella Jungels has been active in Club Interact for four years, serving as social media manager and treasurer. She was in the Ecology Club for four years and in the National Honor Society for two years.
Jungels is active in both band and choir. She plays the clarinet and has been selected for the State Solo and Ensemble Contest with the clarinet choir. She has also gone to state Solo and Ensemble twice with a vocal trio. She is a Link Crew leader and volunteers at the Rotary Super Bowl breakfast.
Outside of school, she enjoys playing pickleball with her dad, Nick Jungels. Her mom is Sarah Jungels, and she has three siblings: Lily, Lucy, and Norah. After graduation, Jungels plans to attend Iowa State University to study chemistry.
