Gwen Motl and Katherine Straka started the school year as Mount Horeb Rotary’s September students of the month.
 
They are both seniors at Mount Horeb Area High School and were in the midst of busy sports seasons during their month of lunching with Rotary.
 
Motl has played varsity soccer for four years, plays the clarinet in marching and concerts bands. She is president of Club Interact and the Spanish Club, and is active in Ecology Club, Students Council, and National Honors Society. In the community, she has been a dental youth apprentice, and volunteered at Camp Invention, Vacation Bible School, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, and coached youth soccer and worked at Children’s Community School.
 
Motl is the daughter of Randall and Sarah Motl and the sister of Addison. She plans to major in biology in college and hopes to attend dental school.
 
Straka was busy this fall running with the cross country team, where she has been a member for four years. She plays basketball and is a four-year member of the track team, going to state for several years. She’s the other co-president of Club Interact, and is also president of Skills USA, and active in Club Interact, Link Crew, and National Honors Society, She was one of Mount Horeb’s representatives to Badger Girls State. In the community, she’s been a volunteer at Neighbors Helping Neighbors, ran a spring clothing drive, and volunteered at Ironman, the art fair, and the Super Bowl Brunch. She works at Miller’s and Sons and as a summer custodian for the Mount Horeb Area School District.
 
Straka is the daughter of Josh and Sarah Straka, and the sister of Julia and William. She plans to major in either architecture or civil engineering in college.
