Club Conversations
March 10, 2021
In attendance: Yauchler, Burns, Burns, Steinhauer, Wilson, Zalucha, Johnson, Smith, Bollig
First conversation was about our vaccines and who/how we got them. Food pantry volunteers can get vaccine. More information at Dane County Health and Human Services.
Our Interact kids volunteered at Neighbors Helping Neighbors. Julie talked about how she has been a part of NHN from the beginning. She noted that the Dillis’s are leading up the food pantry part. There is not just food but includes personal essentials, the Clothes Closet, Rent/ Energy assistance and they even have cat food. They work with Porchlight to find homes for the homeless.
Carl told us that he found 20 “sheds”. Peggy asked what that meant. He explained that “Horns” do not fall off, but antlers do “shed”. People collect them and might auction them off.
We wondered who pays for “sheds”? Some are carved into knife handles or made into lamps or furniture. The velvet state is used by Chinese as an aphrodisiac. Some Boy Scout troops make a lot of money from that. There is little impact on the environment by removing them. Probably only half of them are found anyway.
Probably the most stressful time for wild animals is right now.
Carl got a “corona dog”… it’s a Lab.
Susan will be a vendor at the Mount Horeb Farmers Market. The Square is not giving out permits. She is looking forward to being close to home. She and Matt will be traveling to Colorado and then Sedona. Brent says Sedona will be in high season and packed. He recommended a few good hikes.
Shawn showed us the new cabinets and floor in her home. There is no water yet, but they are getting by. Bree is home from school. Shawn needs to finish the reporting for the Neighbors Helping Neighbors grant. She asked for receipts to assist in the final report.
Susan and Peggy are getting ready for the Home of our Own grant to be submitted in May.
