Happy Bucks and Member Updates

The meeting began with members sharing personal celebrations and updates. Keith shared that he will once again be coaching both kindergarten and second-grade flag football this fall. He also took his children to Shoebox to be fitted for football cleats, and his son Theo has been so excited about the new cleats that he has hardly wanted to take them off, even asking to wear them to bed. Harrison is excited to have proper cleats this season after struggling without them last year.

Dave commented that the new school year is approaching quickly and explained that students will begin classes two weeks earlier than usual. The earlier start allows the district to finish the school year sooner, providing additional time next spring to complete interior work at the new Primary Center before students move into the building next fall.

Dana shared that she recently spent two days helping care for her granddaughter while her daughter transitioned back to work. She also congratulated everyone involved with this year's 10K, noting that the event was an incredible success and represented a tremendous amount of work by many volunteers.

Aubree celebrated accomplishing her first pull-up, a milestone she was excited to share with the club. She also mentioned that she and her family recently hosted five nieces and nephews from Texas and Virginia for several weeks, making for a fun but very busy summer.

Upcoming Rotary Event

Members were reminded about the August 20 event featuring Ed Futa, who will present a program on Rotary's role in promoting peace. The event will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at The Thirsty Goat. The club hopes to have at least ten members attend. Members who signed the attendance sheet are considered registered, and carpooling was encouraged. There was discussion that the club may be covering the registration fee, although final payment details are still being confirmed.

Teacher Luncheon

The annual Teacher Luncheon will be held in the Violet Room. Volunteers are asked to arrive at 11:30 a.m. to help with setup. Most preparations have been completed, with napkins being the only remaining supply needed, although extras may be available in the Rotary trailer. Approximately 35 teachers are expected to attend due to a Chamber golf outing taking place at the same time. Members thanked Peggy and the Outreach Committee for organizing the event and agreed that everything is well prepared.

Consent Agenda

Members were reminded to add any discussion items, feedback, or comments to the Consent Items tab before meetings. There was discussion about the purpose of the consent agenda, with clarification that it serves as a place for members to share information and discussion topics in advance so meetings can move more efficiently while still allowing members to review comments beforehand.

Secretary's Report

The Secretary reported that there were no formal updates this month but introduced new Rotary stickers celebrating the club's 88th year. The stickers were created as part of the club's public outreach efforts, and members were encouraged to take and distribute them within the community.

Treasurer's Report

Keith reported that approximately $20,000 in revenue from the 10K has been deposited. He noted that this amount reflects revenue only and that final profit has not yet been determined. Since the Rotary fiscal year ended on June 30, work is underway to prepare updated financial reports for the new fiscal year. Keith hopes to present preliminary financials at the September business meeting, with finalized reports available by October.

Keith also shared that more participants paid for this year's 10K before race day than in previous years, reducing the amount of follow-up required afterward. Prize winners have been contacted, remaining raffle winnings are being distributed, and members who know winners are welcome to help deliver prizes. Members were also reminded to respond to Keith's recent email regarding club dues and preferred billing schedules.

10K Follow-Up

The club recognized the outstanding success of this year's 10K. Dana again congratulated everyone involved for their hard work. Additional discussion regarding raffle operations and lessons learned will continue once all key organizers are present.

Members also celebrated the success of the 10K social media campaign. Liz and Aubree were recognized for their creative marketing efforts, which generated more than 61,000 views between July 6 and August 2. Members praised the engaging content and photography used to promote both the event and Rotary's community impact. Additional sponsor recognition posts are planned.

Library Fence Project

Dave provided an update on the library fence restoration project. Materials have been purchased, and the cedar needed for the repair has already been delivered. The remaining work will be completed in several phases, including replacing the top rail and staining the fence over multiple workdays. Although progress slowed during the busy 10K season and Dave's kitchen remodel, the library has been very understanding and appreciative of the club's continued efforts. Additional volunteers will be requested if needed.

Green Team Update

Members were reminded that the Green Team would be meeting later that evening at the Welcome Center. As one of Rotary's community partners, the Green Team continues to work closely with the club on environmental initiatives throughout the community.

Membership

Shawn reported that the Membership Committee continues transferring documents and templates into the club's new systems. Planning is also underway for the next Fireside Chat, tentatively scheduled for September 30, with final details still being confirmed.

Youth Exchange

Dana shared that former exchange student Xandra recently reached out while traveling from Greenland back to Denmark to begin school. She continues to stay connected with Rotary and expressed once again how meaningful her exchange experience has been.

The club also discussed plans to host another exchange student during the 2027–2028 Rotary year. Members acknowledged that recruiting host families remains one of the program's greatest challenges. Discussion focused on the value of placing exchange students with families who have high school-aged children, as those relationships often help students adjust more quickly and build lasting friendships. Members brainstormed ways to raise awareness of the program while recognizing the advertising limitations established by Rotary Youth Exchange.

Dana also shared that Xandra believes Rotary's exchange program is significantly more supportive than many other international exchange organizations. She appreciated having local Rotarians available throughout the year and described the Rotary experience as providing far greater guidance and community than other exchange programs.

Future Service Opportunity

The club briefly discussed the possibility of organizing a Thanksgiving meal delivery project later this fall. Members agreed it is an idea worth exploring as planning begins for November service activities.
