Karla: Homecoming, ate at Texas Roadhouse, went to the zoo on Sunday. Today she met a fellow Brazilian student here in Mt. Horeb. His family moved here because his sister is attending college here. She danced at homecoming during a Justin Bieber song. Unfortunately she was not there long due to a mechanical challenge with the car. 

 

Welcome Dana, who applied online.

 

Bob is happy to be here. Likes the location.

 

Paul: happy buck to share why he and Steve are wearing orange for unity day for anti-bullying and prevention month at our schools.

 

Bob: for his wife who thought we were wearing orange for Univ. of Illinois homecoming who is playing Wisconsin.

 

Mark: happy that he didn’t miss Mount Horeb Public Library’s Big Read. Timothy Egan’s book. “A Fever in the Heartland” about the popularity and growth of the KKK in the 1920’s, and the origin story behind Notre Dame and the term, “the Fighting Irish.”

Next week’s session will focus on the presence of the clan in Wisconsin.

 

Peggy: happy for our library’s program for shining a light on parts of our history and knowing these type of things so it doesn’t happen again.

 

Steve:

Welcoming Ava Kolb who joined us last week. Best of the best, a leader amongst leaders.

Ava: Sunday 10/29 will be at Ingleside and Bee Hive doing reverse trick or treating in costume.

Ava likes art, is a member of national art society club, plays basketball with Dana’s daughter, Ella.

 

Keith: happy buck for 2nd anniversary as a member of our club.

 

12/27 is our holiday party

 

Paul is asking for feedback about our location for lunch. Paul emphasized the strengths of having meetings at Culver’s. Brought up having one of our social’s at the Viking because Trey was so inviting.  We are reserved for the next 4 weeks at Wednesday at noon. We can store items here, and there is room for more members and room to grow.

 

Paul: thinking about Rotary international’s theme for this year of creating hope for the world. Our club, small with active and engaged members who care about one another, care about making Mt. Horeb a better place. To our new members, jumping in with 2 feet and getting fully involved and thanks the new members for their time.

 

Peggy: has rotary items for new members. Peggy presented to Bob, who presented to Faye.

Peggy is second longest standing member. Mark was president the year that Rotary included women in 1986.

Peggy recalled back when her husband was the historian who interview some of the older members. All the responded that bringing women was one of the biggest change in the club and we finally started doing things.

Mark’s wife Gail was a Rotary Ann.

 

Judy: when she was in Australia there were Rotary Ann’s. Peggy: Lithuania clubs had active Rotary Ann clubs did not participate in the men’s meetings.

 

Peggy welcomed in Bob to our club which founded in 1939.

 

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

First. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

Second. High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

Third. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;

Fourth. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

 

Presentation continued with presentation of plaques, pin, and handbooks.

 

Bob presented Faye with her plaques, and pin as well as mentioning Peggy’s FAQ document.

Faye: Never expected it when moving from Colorado.
She thinks our group is great, welcoming, energetic and interesting, she never thought about Rotary. Bob drew up the contrasting experience of living in California where he hardly knew his neighbors compared to Mt. Horeb where his neighbor snow plowed his driveway while they were away in Florida.
