Heidi thanked Susan Smith for the great artcle in the Mount Horeb Mail. Our club is getting nice attention due to her efforts.
Russ reported that our recent International Grant is moving through the proper channels at RI.
Destinee Udelhoven, Executive Director of the Driftless Historium was our speaker today. She thanked us for the Rotary Community Grant that they received.
She discussed their Driftess Seed Project which seeks to educate about seed collecting, horticulture and sustainable practices, and identify and share locally cultivated seeds and their stories from the Driftless area of Southwest Wisconsin. On Sat, Sept 25 @ 11:00 a.m. Seed Saving & Storage 101. FREE Workshop. Meet under the Stewart Lake County Park shelter (3106 Co Hwy JG, Mt Horeb, WI) to learn the basics of the age-old traditions of edible plant seed harvesting and storage from the Driftless Seed Project’s experienced team of growers and naturalists. Grow History in your garden; preserve the past for the future. Have you ever wanted to save seeds from your garden but didn’t know where to start?
Destinee also talked about current projects of capturing Local Oral History. She is currently working on the Gonstead Oral History. Also planned are the Oral History of Cheese Factories and of Local Music. They are in the process of collecting the information and then will begin the activity of figuring out what to do with it later. Time is of the essence because the people who know the stories will not be here forever.
