Mount Horeb Green Team: a Rotary Community Corps
Welcome to the Mount Horeb Green Team.
Who are we?
The Green Team is a Rotary Community Corps organization with origins from the Village of Mount Horeb's Sustainability and Natural Resources Committee.
The Green Team serves as the club’s primary vehicle for environmental action, aligning with Rotary International’s official seventh Area of Focus: Protecting the Environment.
As part of the Rotary organization the team operates under the fundamental principals of Rotary International's 4-Way Test.
- Truth: We rely on science, data, and community surveys.
- Fairness: Our efforts support equitable access to a clean and healthy environment.
- Goodwill: Projects foster cooperation, trust, and respect.
- Beneficial: The planet and people thrive when sustainability is at the center.
As a spin-off the the Village Sustainability and Natural Resources (SNR) Committee, the Green Team also operates within the mission principals of the committee:
"The Sustainability Committee will serve in an advisory capacity, and to act in the long-term interests of environmental and economic sustainability for the Village."
The Green Team now meets at the conference room at the Mount Horeb Chamber of Commerce either on the first or second Monday of the month.
For up-to-date information for meeting locations and content relating to local sustainability events visit the group's Facebook page.
Members of the Green Team are working on projects to reduce waste stream through styrofoam recycling, and a village-wide composting project with financial support of the Mount Horeb Lions Club and Rotary Club of Mount Horeb.
Other initiatives include: Bird City Designation, Sol Smart Silver recognition, a village-wide sow-along pollinator planting program that launches in spring, home energy efficiency education and outreach, bike friendly city designation, and travel green designation.
